Alexander Bak Trio
Alexander began playing classical piano at the age of 8. Playing music became an invaluable
sanctuary throughout his childhood, as various mental disorders tested his mind. At the age of 14,
he was introduced to jazz music and pianists such as Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Jan
Johansson. The feeling of being able to communicate without words with his peers through
vibrant, improvised music was a transformative change — and over the next few years, Alexander
cultivated jazz music at the highest level at the conservatory. However, alongside his passion for
jazz, Alexander was also drawn back to classical music, particularly to the works of J.S. Bach.
Consequently, he began playing church organ and pursued studies in organ and classical music
theory. In his compositions, one can thus sense both a love for the jazz tradition and a more
traditional treatment of dissonance.
