Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir
Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir is an Icelandic pianist, composer and vocalist based in Copenhagen. She grew up playing classical piano and only began playing jazz in her early twenties. Her classical background remains an important part of her musical language, particularly in her approach to harmony and melody.
Her music also connects to the musical heritage she grew up with in Northwest Iceland, where choral music played an important role in both the local community and her family history.
Sigurdís has written and arranged music for ensembles including Reykjavík Big Band, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and Odense Jazz Orchestra. In 2023, she was a
finalist in the Nordic Composer Contest, organised by Odense Jazz Orchestra. Her reimagining of “I Get Along Without You Very Well,” released in 2023, has
received more than 120,000 streams on Spotify.
Sigurdís leads her own trio, which has performed in Denmark and abroad, including at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík and Nordatlantisk Hus in Odense.
She holds a Master’s in piano and composition from the Danish National Academy of Music, where she also completed the postgraduate soloist programme Contemporary Creative Artist in 2026. Canadian pianist and composer David Braid, a four-time Juno Award winner, has been a central mentor in her artistic development for several years.
