Vanja Santos
Vanja Santos is a Brazilian singer, actrice, composer and text-writer. Her distinctive voice and phrases do not only go through bones and marrow, but also go deep into the foundation of the heart" (a concert review made by Boris Rabinowitsch in the newspaper Politiken).
Vanja Santos music has a background in the Brazilian roots, but is deeply forced and heavily mixed with American European jazz/rock, funk and pop. Vanja was born in the Laranjeiras district of Rio de Janeiro, grew up in Brazil's modern capital Brasilia and is today residing in Denmark. She comes from an artistic family, where her mother Vânia dos Santos was a singer in Heitor dos Prazeres' Brazilian focloric show orquester. He father Milton Cruz is a saxplayer and her brother Milton Brasília was a singer and a part of the Brazilian Popular Music movement. She has participated in different CDs and launched her own "I say Time", "Todas as Coisas" "VIRTUALbossajazzsamba" Vanja continues her solo career with her upcoming CD "Black is Beautiful" Tribute to Elis Regina.
“2025 Many try to be original and then there are those who just are. The latter applies particularly to Vanja, who is just 101% present in the song, has complete control of all the means, even in the most spontaneous & wild vocal parts. No one can combine the impulsive, the self-confident and the technically superior like her. But it naturally helps when you are surrounded by a "secret A-team". Live review 4/4/25 by Ulrik Fackmann.
