JUNGLE MONEY 4 plays improvised music at the intersection of jazz and European avant-garde. They represent the closest thing to a Danish national ensemble within the field of jazz. Both Jan and Peter have been awarded the Danish Arts Foundation’s lifetime achievement award.
Jan Kaspersen is firmly rooted in the granite of jazz. Through his constant, fluid exchanges with the music of Ellington and Monk, he has developed a musical language that breaks with tradition and creates surprisingly fresh music.
Hasse Poulsen has lived in Paris since 1997 and has toured the world, notably with Louis Sclavis and Das Kapital.
Peter Friis Nielsen occupies a special place amongst Danish jazz’s many outstanding bassists. His original approach to bass playing has made him highly sought-after by the international elite of avant-garde jazz – from Brötzmann to Evan Parker.
Claus Bøje has been the drummer in three of the most significant and critically acclaimed groups in the history of Danish free jazz: Coronarias Dans, Avantis and Clinch. And now he is also a poet.
