Open Minds

"Open Minds" is a new album from saxophonist Emil Hess with 8 new original compositions as well as interpretations of the standard melody “Cry Me A River” and Duke Ellington's “African Flower”. New Nordic jazz with a transatlantic touch. Original melodies, spherical warm sounds, swinging grooves and a colorful expression. Music written and arranged for duo and quartet format with award-winning musicians who have played together for many years, and who all have a close knowledge of Emil Hess' music.

The duo Thomas Clausen and Emil Hess have collaborated in various constellations for more than 20 years. With joint participation on several critically acclaimed albums and many concerts, they know each other well and have a close collaboration with great mutual understanding. The quartet, which in addition to Hess and Clausen, includes Canadian bassist Graig Earle and American drummer Richard Huntley, is also a collaborative group that has played since 2013 with performances at various festivals and venues in Denmark and abroad.

Emil Hess is an internationally active Copenhagen saxophonist and composer, has written over 400 compositions, released 18 albums, won the “Danish Music Award” for best Danish jazz album and has played over 1500 concerts in Denmark and abroad. Thomas Clausen is one of Denmark's finest pianists, who has played with everything and everyone in Danish and international jazz.
