About the release

“As friendships evolve, so does the boldness of our music – we are proud to present our new album Fuglefolk, a manifestation of song and play.”

After nearly a decade since their debut album Godtfolk, Songleikr returns with their long-awaited second release, Fuglefolk—a heartfelt, honest, and playful folk-pop album gathered from the group’s creative treasure chest. Where Godtfolk leaned more deeply into traditional material, Fuglefolk is composed by the band themselves: bigger in sound, richer in instrumentation, and more progressive in spirit.

Recorded live in the studio—with the full ensemble playing together to capture that raw, communal “folk-in-the-room” energy—Fuglefolk carries the pulse of real moments. Several tracks grew from improvised jam sessions, staying true to the Songleikr spirit (“song game”), where spontaneity and connection guide the music.

The lineup of the album consists of Maria Franz—the Norwegian vocalist also known from the internationally acclaimed group Heilung, Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch, Norwegian singer and songwriter, Kasia Sikora-Black, a UK-based musician with a rich musical education and an ear for shimmering melodic textures, and Petter-Olai Østbye Sagen (NO), who anchors the group’s sound with the deep rhythmic pulse that defines Songleikr’s unmistakable musical landscape.

Unique for this production, Fuglefolk also features special guest appearances by Magnus Børmark (Gåte) on mandola and guitar, Myrkur (DK) on viola and keyharpe, Jo Ranheim (NO) on mandola and guitar, and Mona Hynne (NO) on guitar.

What can fans expect from Fuglefolk?
Powerful gliding Nordic harmonies, playful progressive beats, honest emotion, dancing energy, and moments of pure musical mischief. It is a collection of songs made to be felt—alive, breathing, and full of joy.

In partnership with Laviola Booking, Songleikr will embark on an exclusive European tour in 2026—offering devoted listeners the first-ever chance to experience the magic of Songleikr’s live performances.

For the first time, the flock goes live with their new lineup, and are proud to include multi-instrumentalist Espen Wensaas (NO) in the ensemble. A pioneering force in reshaping Nordic folk music, his craftsmanship brings new colors and depth to both old and new compositions.
