About the release
Viraks crowning achievement, Threads, was originally given a highly limited CD-only release in 2008, hailed by Danish press as a hidden masterpiece. Recorded in Copenhagen, the record features guest musicians from Under Byen and Slaraffenland (p. 2), and was mixed by Kenny Jones (Sophia, Bauhaus, The Smiths).
In May 2026, Threads was finally unveiled digitally and on vinyl via Forward Backwards Recordings. The re-release stands as a deeply moving, posthumous legacy for frontman Martin Ejlertsen (p. 2). Also known globally for his acclaimed psychedelic cosmic pop band @Black Light White Light (p. 2), Martin tragically passed away on May 23, 2026, at age 49 after a battle with ALS (p. 2). Before his passing, Martin oversaw this definitive edition, newly mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer JJ Golden (Black Pumas). Led by the haunting single 'Where It All Begins', Virak’s timeless sound remains an enduring testament to raw artistic brilliance.
About the artist
Virak is a prominent, atmospheric fixture of the Danish indie rock underground. Formed in Copenhagen (2002–2009) by Martin Ejlertsen (vocals, guitar, keys), Christian Kühne (bass, keys), and Peter Dyring Olsen (drums), the trio forged a unique identity. Drawing inspiration from Mogwai, Spiritualized, Low, and Elbow, they seamlessly blended atmospheric post-rock, slowcore, progressive rock, and 70s acid rock.
